another article and research that supports claims that static stretching not necessary and could actually cause more harm than good.
this is part of the reason we do dynamic range of motion and workout and task specific warm-ups at CrossFit Lynchburg. also from personal experience and observation i have never performed well or felt better during a competition or workout when i've spent a period of time stretching statically before hand. and in contrast the fastest times i've run and most i've lifted have come when i've warmed up specifically or gone through a series of dynamic range of motion exercises.
